Richmond's Walking & Book Festival returns from 18th to 27th September this year with the usual stimulating mix of authors' talks and gorgeous walks.

The Festival provides a unique mix of daytime walks and evening talks to both inspire and invigorate. Many of the walks are old favourites - which can sell out very quickly! -  but there are some fascinating new offerings as well this year. Walk 6 this year is a journey to the source of the Swale, taking walkers into one of the remotest corners of Swaledale, an area of seemingly endless fells and deep gills, of wide skies and scattered farms... There's also a chance to trace one of the Northern Saints Routes to Durham over two days.

Talks vary widely, but its always fun to see some that answer to the theme of exploring, on foot or on bike. In Lone Wolf: Walking the Fault Lines of Europe Adam Weymouth walks the wild corners of the Alps examining changes facing this corner of Europe, where re-wilding meets cultural preservation and climate change is reshaping lives. Thomas Bell takes the audience to the Himalyas for Human Nature - Walking in Nepal. Closer to home, Kenneth Wilson's latest book – Pilgrim Cello – chronicles his 1,900-mile journey around all forty-two English cathedrals, complete with cello.

That's just a sample of this year's offerings - and there are also book fairs, bookbinding workshops and even a chance to be part of the creation of a communal poem!

Everyone will find something to entrance in this year's varied and entertaining programme, which you can now view online. The Box Office opens on June 1st when you can book online, or at the Festival Box Office provided by Richmond Information Centre in the Market Hall.
