From 19–28 September 2025, Richmond welcomes the popular Walking & Book Festival. Now in its 20th year, the festival offers a unique mix of guided walks, author talks, and workshops, celebrating the connection between literature and landscape.

Visitors can choose from gentle riverside strolls to challenging moorland hikes, while literary events include evening talks, discussions, and hands-on workshops such as bookbinding. Highlights include the Peter Robinson Memorial Lecture by Michael Jecks, exploring how landscapes shape storytelling, and walks across the Dales with historic sites and stunning scenery. New for 2025 is the “Save Our Swale” circular walk, blending riverside views with environmental insights.

Early booking is advised as many walks are limited and popular events sell out quickly. Tickets are available online or via the Richmond Information Centre, with some theatre-based events booked directly through the Georgian Theatre Royal.

The festival is a celebration of Richmondshire’s landscapes and literary culture, offering visitors of all ages a chance to explore, learn, and enjoy the beauty of the Dales. Whether you’re a walker, a reader, or both, Books & Boots 2025 promises a rich and rewarding experience.
