One of Richmond’s most iconic landmarks has once again been recognised on the world stage. The Georgian Theatre Royal has received a 2025 Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Award, placing it in the top 10% of attractions worldwide.

This prestigious award – formerly known as the Certificate of Excellence – is based entirely on visitor feedback over the past year. With a 4.9-star rating and over 500 glowing reviews, the Theatre continues to attract praise from locals and tourists alike for its warm welcome, rich history and outstanding customer experience.

Currently ranked first out of 30 ‘Things to Do’ in Richmond on Tripadvisor, the Theatre is a popular destination for those wanting to explore the town’s heritage or enjoy a wide range of live performances throughout the year.

As well as hosting shows for all ages and interests, the Theatre also runs its popular Georgian Theatre Experience – a guided tour that reveals the story of the oldest working theatre in its original form in the UK. Opened in 1788, the Theatre remains a remarkable window into the past.

Tour highlights include access to the intimate auditorium, backstage areas and dressing rooms, as well as the beautifully restored Woodland Scene, thought to be the oldest surviving piece of stage scenery in Britain. Visitors can also explore a quirky exhibition featuring props and set pieces from past pantomimes – many of which will be instantly recognisable to Richmond residents!

Tours operate Monday to Saturday, 10am to 3pm, with the last tour starting at 3pm. No advance booking is necessary – just drop in and discover one of Richmond’s greatest treasures.
