Celebrate Father’s Day in a secret garden

Looking for something a little different this Father’s Day? Step behind the high stone walls of one of Richmond’s hidden gems and enjoy a magical afternoon in Mr. Yorke’s Walled Garden.

On Sunday 15 June, from 1pm to 5pm, the historic garden at 1a Cravengate will open its gates to visitors for a special fundraising event in support of Richmond MayFest – the town’s much-loved annual festival of music, dance and storytelling.

This unique open garden event offers the perfect mix of nature, creativity and community spirit. Guests can enjoy the sounds of live Scottish folk music, browse handmade gifts and artwork, and sample delicious homemade cakes with tea, all in a relaxed garden party atmosphere.

Set against a backdrop of mature trees, herbaceous borders, roses and meandering pathways, Mr. Yorke’s Walled Garden is a peaceful oasis with a rich history. Originally part of an 18th-century estate built by John Yorke II, the garden has been lovingly restored by its current owners, Dennis and Marcia McLuckie, who have transformed it from an overgrown tangle into a vibrant and informal sanctuary.

All proceeds from ticket and refreshment sales will help fund next year’s Richmond MayFest, while plants on sale will support local charity Just the Job. Entry is £6 for adults, and free for accompanied children under 16. Please bring cash as card payments cannot be accepted.

With flowers in bloom, music in the air, and treats on the table, this is a Father’s Day outing to remember.
