Coast to Coast walk awarded National Trail status

The world-famous 190-mile walking route which passes through Richmond gains National Trail status.

Created by the renowned fell-walker and author Alfred Wainwright almost 50 years ago, the walk runs between St Bees in Cumbria and the North Yorkshire fishing village of Robin Hood’s Bay, taking in some of the most spectacular landscapes in the North of England.

Richmond is traditionally where many of the participants take a mid-walk break, turning the town into a bustling walker’s hub – particularly in the summer months.

National Trail designation means the walk will receive more than £5m to upgrade the walk and for path maintenance, signposting and promotion.

This is fantastic news for the thousands of walkers - from across the globe - who make the journey, as well as the many local businesses who benefit from this additional tourism.

Richmond is a great place to be based for a walking holiday, with plenty of walks in and around the town itself and further afield in the stunning Yorkshire Dales National Park.
