Local folk group celebrates 50 years

There’s an enormous amount of talent in the Richmond area, especially in the performing arts, with many people involved with singing, drama and musical activities.

A shining example is the popular local folk band Fourum who this year are celebrating their 50th anniversary.

Over the years, they have featured on local radio, national television and in concerts and festivals in Britain and abroad, and have produced six albums and a book of their songs. They are renowned for the amazing number of instruments they play (over 20 feature in an average concert) and their memorable harmony singing.

To mark the anniversary, they are appearing at The Georgian Theatre Royal on Saturday 8 October and will bring to the stage a bewitching combination of their own original ballads recounting the history, legends and characters of Swaledale with a more traditional folk repertoire drawn from Scotland, Ireland and Tyneside.

There are a last few tickets remaining for the concert, which can be booked online or by calling the Theatre’s Box Office on 01748 825252.

Information about the town’s many community groups can be found here. There’s no excuse not to get involved!
