Market Place proposal

Prince Charles, as he was, compared Richmond's cobbled Market Place to the famous Piazza del Campo in Siena. That's a bit far-fetched: our Market Place is rather smaller, and we don't (yet) hold break-neck horse races around it. On the other hand, ours is even older than Siena's square, and has a better fish-and-chip shop.

Anyway...

North Yorkshire Council wants to put more planters and benches around Richmond's Market Place, "to increase dwell time", and "shift the square's primary function away from parking". Watch this space. Meanwhile, let's hope the funding comes through.

Footnote: the Piazza del Campo is entirely car-free. Apart from the horse races, it is also a venue for festivals, concerts and seasonal markets, and a huge draw for locals and visitors to stroll around.
