One of the World's most Breathtaking Cinemas

Right here - in Richmond

The Financial Times recently asked its readers to nominate the finest cinemas anywhere in the world.

We were surprised - No, scrub that; we weren't at all surprised to find our own wonderful Station Cinema listed alongside famous picture houses in Vienna, Nairobi, Bologna, California and other glitzy locations.

With apologies, we'll just quote the FT's review verbatim:

"The Station Cinema in Richmond, North Yorkshire, is located in the beautifully restored old Victorian railway station with its wonderful glazed roof and original iron work. There is also a café serving the kind of hearty food one wants after a lengthy walk in lovely Swaledale."

To which we can only add that it's rare to find a small town (about 9,000 inhabitants) which has a thriving three-screen cinema, screening an adventurous range of films.

If you're visiting Richmond, do plan an evening out at The Station - a meal and a drink beforehand at the Station Cafe | Bar, and a good movie afterwards at the Station Cinema
