Park with care!

Police warn against inconsiderate parking

Local police, the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority and North Yorkshire Council have warned against careless parking at a number of popular sites.

There have been several cases recently, on sunny weekends and Bank Holidays, when cars have been abandoned along roadsides and in farmers' gates, sometimes double-parked and effectively blocking other traffic. Police Inspector Paul Crabtree said: "Blocked roads are not simply an inconvenience; they pose a serious safety risk. Emergency access must be kept clear at all times."

In Richmond, this has been an occasional problem at the town's famous Falls, when cars have been parked along Riverside Road. Over 50 tickets were issued at the recent Bank Holiday weekend.

Councillors have called for police to tow away visitors' vehicles badly parked at beauty spots.

Please be aware! We want you to have a wonderful visit to Richmond and the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and we don't want it spoiled by you having your car towed away! Call in the the town's Information Centre, in the Market Hall, for parking suggestions and a free leaflet on parking options.
