Theatre summer school aims to create a play in a week

Young people are being offered a unique opportunity to produce a show from scratch at a week-long summer school run by Richmond’s Georgian Theatre Royal.

Open to 11 to 18-year-olds, the workshop-style event takes place from Monday 5 to Saturday 10 August and culminates in an evening performance of Paradisium at the Theatre on Saturday 10 August.

During the week, students will participate in a wide range of activities, including devising, acting and performing skills. The final showcase performance will focus on the Ancient Greek myth of Medusa in a heart-warming retelling that is sure to melt any stone heart.

The summer school has been organised by the Georgian Theatre Royal’s award-winning Youth Theatre and will be led by Youth Theatre Officer, Ed Batchelor.

“This is the perfect activity for anyone wanting to do something a bit different during the summer break,” said Ed Batchelor. “No previous performing experience is necessary and the emphasis will definitely be on having fun but with the added excitement of a live public performance."

Places are still available and the cost for the whole week has been held at £70. The workshops run each day from 10am to 4pm.

The Saturday showcase performance will take place on Saturday 10th August at 7pm with tickets available to the public at £8 each.
