Visiting Richmond with a wheelchair?

Let's be honest - Richmond isn't Amsterdam. We have hills, and we have cobbles. For wheelchair users, there may be a few challenges. Never fear: we can help.

Richmond Information Centre, in the Market Hall, has some useful resources:

• Start by downloading this short, free leaflet, 'Accessible Richmond'.
• Take a look at the useful Ordnance Survey guidebook on Accessible North Yorkshire...
• ...or the wonderful 'Walks without Stiles', which goes a litle further, covering the Yorkshire and Cumbrian Dales. 

Closer to home, the famous Easby Loop runs from The Station, Richmond's old railway terminus, now a multi-activity centre for arts, crafts and food, along an abandoned railway track to the ruins of Easby Abbey. From the Abbey, a wheelchair-friendly return is possible on smooth tarmac, offering fine views of the river and the castle.

Also by The Station you'll find an outpost of Access the Dales, a superb little charity which loans motorised wheelchairs - just the thing for the Easby Loop!
