What's On

There's never a dull moment in Richmond...

There’s always something to do and somewhere to go in Richmond. With the unique Georgian Theatre Royal plus the award-winning independent cinema at The Station, drama and cinema are well taken care of, and then there’s the sparkling events programme at the Green Howards Museum, as well as Richmond Castle and the Richmondshire Museum.

The town’s many choirs and two orchestras offer up regular concerts, alongside the Richmondshire Concert Series in Spring and Autumn bringing in world-class chamber ensembles, while there’s plenty of live music at The Comrades Club and at many of the town’s great pubs. Richmond’s festivals are amazingly diverse, from the lively performance scene at MayFest to the delights of both “books and boots” at September’s Walking and Book Festival - never mind the epic Duck Race on the Swale.

Craft markets, health and wellbeing events, every kind of community group you can think of, talks, walks… you’ll always find something to enjoy.

Where better to enjoy the sensational true story of 18th century actress Letitia Sage than The Georgian Theatre Royal? Magnificent Mrs Sage brought va-va-voom to the balloon when she set out to be the first Englishwoman to fly in 1785.

With more hilarious twists than a hit farce, a Georgian playwright could not have given the real-life Mrs Sage balloon show a better plot.

Did the daredevil diva really start the Mile High Club? Join Sharon Wright, author of The Lost History of The Lady Aeronauts and actress Abigail Halley as Mrs Sage to find out!

Suitable for age 16+

This event is part of the Richmond Walking and Book Festival.
