Richmond Meet takes place alongside the traditional Whit Fair, which takes over the Market Place every late May Bank Holiday, with a host of cheerful rides and games.

The Whit Fair goes back to medieval times, but though the Meet is not that old it does have quite a pedigree. It orginated as a cyclists get-together in Victorian times. These days, the Meet exists to raise money for good causes in Richmond, and its main event is a weekend of events over the Bank Holiday weekend, culminating in a grand carnivalesque parade on the morning of Bank Holiday Monday.

Here's the thing - everyone is welcome to join in the Meet Parade! Either dress up a vehicle float, or get some costumes together and come as a walking float. Youngsters might like to get their World Book Day costume on! There are many prizes available in a variety of categories, and it is completely free to enter. Just make sure you are in Nuns Close Car Park at around 9am on 25th May so the judges can take a good look at you - and the Parade itself starts at 10am.
