North Yorkshire Car Park Changes - Weekly Tickets

A few weeks ago, we wrote about the new payment machines in North Yorkshire Council's car parks. They take coins (as before), and payment through the RingGo app (as before) - but now they also accept contactless payment. Hooray! Just type your number plate into the machine, pay as you prefer, and walk away. There's no paper ticket, and you can stay in that particular car park as long as you've paid for.

"In that particular car park"... There's the rub.

Previously the paper week-long ticket could be used in a dozen car parks in Richmond and the Dales. Now, you pay for one week at Nun's Close car park in Richmond - and nowhere else - and you can park for one week in Nun's Close - and nowhere else!

In case you're wondering, the validity of your stay is checked by wardens, not by Automatic Number Plate Recognition. That means you can park in Nun's Close, drive to Reeth in the morning for a day in the Dales, return to Nun's Close in the evening, and be sure that your car isn't going to get an unwelcome yellow sticker from a warden on the grounds that you've already left.
