School holiday fun at The Georgian Theatre Royal

With the school holidays just about to start, Richmond’s Georgian Theatre Royal is offering something a little different for young people looking for a fun and creative way to spend their summer break.

This August, the historic theatre is running two exciting, circus-themed events designed to engage children and teenagers in the magic of performance, while helping them build confidence and learn new skills.

From Monday 4 to Saturday 9 August, young people aged 11 to 18 can take part in a Musical Theatre Summer School, working together to create and perform an original production, Smoke and Mirrors. Set in a mysterious circus world, the show will be devised and rehearsed during the week, with a public performance on the Theatre’s main stage on Saturday 9 August. The course costs £80 and promises to be an exciting and rewarding experience for any young person interested in drama, music or stagecraft.

For younger children aged 6 to 11, a one-day drama workshop on Tuesday 12 August offers a lively introduction to the world of circus characters, storytelling and theatre-making. The workshop costs £20 and is packed with games, fun and imaginative play.

Both events are led by Aimee Shields, the Theatre’s Youth Theatre Manager, who brings a wealth of experience in working with young people.

“These workshops are a brilliant opportunity for children and teenagers to express themselves, build confidence and have lots of fun,” she said. “Whether they’re seasoned performers or just curious to try something new, there’s a place for everyone under our theatrical big top!”

Spaces are limited and early booking is recommended. The deadline to sign up is Tuesday 30 July.
