What's On

There's never a dull moment in Richmond...

There’s always something to do and somewhere to go in Richmond. With the unique Georgian Theatre Royal plus the award-winning independent cinema at The Station, drama and cinema are well taken care of, and then there’s the sparkling events programme at the Green Howards Museum, as well as Richmond Castle and the Richmondshire Museum.

The town’s many choirs and two orchestras offer up regular concerts, alongside the Richmondshire Concert Series in Spring and Autumn bringing in world-class chamber ensembles, while there’s plenty of live music at The Comrades Club and at many of the town’s great pubs. Richmond’s festivals are amazingly diverse, from the lively performance scene at MayFest to the delights of both “books and boots” at September’s Walking and Book Festival - never mind the epic Duck Race on the Swale.

Craft markets, health and wellbeing events, every kind of community group you can think of, talks, walks… you’ll always find something to enjoy.

Swaledale Festival welcomes renowned trumpeter Jonny Bruce – celebrated for his fiery playing and magnetic stage presence – back to the Festival after his acclaimed 2025 appearance with Moscow Drug Club. Leading his hard-swinging quintet, Jonny brings a high-energy take on the Great American Songbook, blending Duke Ellington-inspired swing with verve, sophistication, and irresistible jazz.

Celebrated for his fiery trumpet work, expressive tone and magnetic stage presence, Jonny is one of the UK’s most in-demand trumpet players, equally at home in intimate clubs or commanding the lead trumpet chair in major ensembles. He has performed alongside leading artists including Bobby Shew, Pee Wee Ellis, Fred Wesley, Andy Sheppard and Art Themen. His trumpet can be heard in venues from Ronnie Scott’s to international jazz festivals, and features on BBC’s The Outlaws.
