There's never a dull moment in Richmond...

There’s always something to do and somewhere to go in Richmond. With the unique Georgian Theatre Royal plus the award-winning independent cinema at The Station, drama and cinema are well taken care of, and then there’s the sparkling events programme at the Green Howards Museum, as well as Richmond Castle and the Richmondshire Museum.

The town’s many choirs and two orchestras offer up regular concerts, alongside the Richmondshire Concert Series in Spring and Autumn bringing in world-class chamber ensembles, while there’s plenty of live music at The Comrades Club and at many of the town’s great pubs. Richmond’s festivals are amazingly diverse, from the lively performance scene at MayFest to the delights of both “books and boots” at September’s Walking and Book Festival - never mind the epic Duck Race on the Swale.

Craft markets, health and wellbeing events, every kind of community group you can think of, talks, walks… you’ll always find something to enjoy.

The quirks and pitfalls of Great War family history research. Anonymised to protect the innocent! Find out about how seemingly harmless family history enquiries have led to questions about parentage and dubious medical conditions!

Learn to appreciate the miracles expected of researchers on the basis of minimal evidence (my grandfather was short and missing a finger – in one case the only information offered!) and the bizarre, humbling and truly awe-inspiring stories that such research revealed.
