There's never a dull moment in Richmond...

There’s always something to do and somewhere to go in Richmond. With the unique Georgian Theatre Royal plus the award-winning independent cinema at The Station, drama and cinema are well taken care of, and then there’s the sparkling events programme at the Green Howards Museum, as well as Richmond Castle and the Richmondshire Museum.

The town’s many choirs and two orchestras offer up regular concerts, alongside the Richmondshire Concert Series in Spring and Autumn bringing in world-class chamber ensembles, while there’s plenty of live music at The Comrades Club and at many of the town’s great pubs. Richmond’s festivals are amazingly diverse, from the lively performance scene at MayFest to the delights of both “books and boots” at September’s Walking and Book Festival - never mind the epic Duck Race on the Swale.

Craft markets, health and wellbeing events, every kind of community group you can think of, talks, walks… you’ll always find something to enjoy.

Richmond MayFest 2026: Saturday May 2nd to Monday May 4th
Save the date - there's so much going on! 

  • May Fair at Richmond Castle Saturday, Sunday & Mondaywith usic, dance, storytelling, living history, children’s activities, stalls... 
  • Busking and Street Entertainment in & around the Market Place on Saturday
  • Ballad Walks around Richmond celebrating Richmond's history in music and tales
  • FolkFest at Richmond Town Hall, Saturday evening
  • Folk Sessions on Saturday and Sunday - with Sea Shanties!
  • Musical Promenade to Easby on Saturday for our concert of gorgeous folk music with Edie Heringman and friends, 5pm Saturday
  • MayFest Makers craft activities at Richmondshire Museum - free for DL9, DL10 and DL11 residents
  • MayFest BaroqueFest at St Mary's on Sunday
  • North East Early Music Forum Playing Day at the Town Hall on Monday
  • MayFest Ceilidh at Richmond School on Sunday 
  • Day of Dance on Sunday with the Richmond on Swale Morris Men & guest sides - dancing all round the town
  • MayFest Parade with the May Queen & King from Town Hall to Castle, starting 10.45am on Monday
  • MayFest PlayFest on Monday - rides & games in the Market Place, the Silly History Boys, panto at the Castle, traditional Maytime sports competitions... MayFest Women Aloud Party on Monday - with drumming and games!
  • MayFest Market on Sunday and Monday - plus traditional rides - in the Market Place
