What's On

There's never a dull moment in Richmond...

There’s always something to do and somewhere to go in Richmond. With the unique Georgian Theatre Royal plus the award-winning independent cinema at The Station, drama and cinema are well taken care of, and then there’s the sparkling events programme at the Green Howards Museum, as well as Richmond Castle and the Richmondshire Museum.

The town’s many choirs and two orchestras offer up regular concerts, alongside the Richmondshire Concert Series in Spring and Autumn bringing in world-class chamber ensembles, while there’s plenty of live music at The Comrades Club and at many of the town’s great pubs. Richmond’s festivals are amazingly diverse, from the lively performance scene at MayFest to the delights of both “books and boots” at September’s Walking and Book Festival - never mind the epic Duck Race on the Swale.

Craft markets, health and wellbeing events, every kind of community group you can think of, talks, walks… you’ll always find something to enjoy.

In 2009, Christian Garrick established the refreshingly unconventional and snappily attired Budapest Café Orchestra. Their aim is to present a broad range of music from all over the world in the most entertaining and fun way possible!

They take their music very seriously but not so much themselves. All the music is performed by memory and delivered with their trademark wit and charm.

With Christian Garrick on violin and darbuka; Marcus Tilt on accordion; Kelly Cantlon on double bass; and Adrian Zolotuhin on guitar, saz, balalaika and dorma, the Budapest Café Orchestra are frequent guests on BBC Radio 3’s In Tune and Martin’s Handley’s weekend Breakfast programmes.

“Absolutely acoustically electrifying!”  Time Out
